To: alt.magick,alt.freemasonry From: paulhume@comcast.net (Paul Hume) Subject: Re: The Curse of Baphomet Date: 7 Mar 2004 08:13:58 -0800 > My question concerns what the tract calls the symbol of Baphomet, > which it says was worn by Aleister Crowley. Does anyone have > information about it? Thanks. It's an 11-fold cross, similar to a Jerusalem Cross but adding two more crosslets to the figure. Used with the signature of ninth degree members of OTO when they are signing off on something in their official capacity. That's the highest degree worked in OTO, and carries a lot of administrative work with it. Several higher numbered degrees exist but they are either purely titulary or are outside the regular line of initiation. When Crowley was appointed tenth degree (ie. national GM) of the UK, he adopted the motto/name of Baphomet, and retained that name for OTO work when he succeeded Reuss as head of the Order. So you see OTO documents from Crowley's hand signed Baphomet, Xo with the 11-fold cross. Paul
