If genuine (historically speaking), the only thing they have in common is OTO charter via Reuss. The "Franco-Haitian OTO" is from Papus' French OTO charter. The OTOA is from Krum-Heller's Spanish-speaking New World OTO charter. Bertieux claims connection to both, but apparently does not mean the same thing by "OTOA" that Krumm-Heller (the first to designate that) did. Bertieux's claims in Franco-Haitian OTO appear to be undocumented. >Tau Alha, Master of Shiva-Set-Saturn Lodge of O.T.O.A. According to Krumm-Heller's son, Partzifal Krumm-Heller, OTOA never initiated members and died with Krumm-Heller. This is born out by similar information from Peru, Columbia and Bolivia, where survivals of OTOA tradition have continued, without initiations and without charters. >Also, what about giving the grades (Memphis/Mitzraim as well as >Astrum Argentum Q.B.L.H.) through mail? In my personal opinion, this is impossible for A.'.A.'. in the traditional and narrow sense, but there are innovative variations on it. A.'.A.'. Neophyte and other levels in Crowley's design require face-to-face meetings for induction by ritual and reading. M&M charters by Yarker may have been passed through the mail in the early part of the 20th century, but I do not know that for a fact. >I know a person who got >Memphis/Mitzraim grades from Koenig I do not believe them to be valid, but that's an opinion with an inadequate basis. >Astrum Argentum Q.B.L.H. from one >Gnostic Bishopp from French (Webb line) That is a matter of an organization using the name of another and different organization as part of their own name. >and O.T.O. grades (I think >Krumm-Heller line, but I'm not sure) from Spain. All of this through mail! That is impossible, on two counts: 1. OTO grades (called "degrees") are always by physical presence -- except that Minerval was in Reuss's early days a mail order possibility and Masonic degree membership could be transferred to OTO degree membership until about 1920 (possibly without physical presence, but I doubt it). 2. Krumm-Heller did not charter initiates and did not himself initiate into any OTO degrees. He had a charter for OTO, but created a Rosicrucian order and worked the Gnostic Catholic Church. His OTOA was an associate body. -- Again, this is based on his son's account. 93 93/93 Bill Heidrick ____________...oooOOO---thelema93-l@hollyfeld.org---OOOooo..._____________ To subscribe send: 'subscribe thelema93-l' to majordomo@hollyfeld.org To unsubscribe send: 'unsubscribe thelema93-l' to majordomo@hollyfeld.org http://www.hollyfeld.org/heaven
