in many if not most jurisdictions, that is so. they require that you
have a belief in a Supreme Being as has been mentioned already. 

however, there are organizations of people who claim to be Masons
(French, I think) who make room for atheists, if they are not
entirely comprised of atheists. these more liberal Masons may not
be recognized by other Masons, but there you are.
