49970209 AA1  Hail Satan!

kapoor@hawaii.edu:
>>>> Sorry if this was asked before, but what is the significance

I've been wondering this for some time now and collecting contentions.

VanOrmer :
>>> ...It is 666 because satan in everyway tries to duplicate God.
>>> (Holy trinity copied to unholy trinity, cross turned upside ]
>>> down, etc.)

fascinating! I say this because humans have been trying to duplicate
their conception of this god (Judeochristian) since they have been
in contact with its restrictive political body. Priests and others
engage sorcery or magick in an attempt to create life, create and/or
change substances, and render themselves immune to change and death.

>>> The devil's number is 6. It has become so well known because of
>>> the verse in the book of Revelation 13:16-18 -

>>>	"He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor,
>>> free and slave, to recieve a mark on their right hand
>>> or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell
>>> except one who has the mark or the name of the beast,
>>> or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who
>>> has understanding calculate the number of the beast,
>>> for it is the number of a man: His number is 666." (NIV)

that is the only support for it of which I am aware beyond the
magical square/kamea of Sol, whose numbers sum to 666.

ahriman@styx-is.com (Ahriman):
>> Bull shit. The reason REAL satanists pick the number 666 is that it
>> represents life, carbon based life. 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6
>> electrons. Satanists care nothing about Christians, and accept
>> nothing from their bible.

this appears to be a modern innovation. intriguing nonetheless.

rsummerl@nauticom.net (Raymond M. Summerlin Sr.):
>In the bible, many things were denoted by numbers. Some were just ment to
>convey a long time, like 40 (40 days and 40 nights). 6 was the denotation of
>man,

I don't understand that connection.

>3 was god (the trinity, father-son-holy spirit),

that part makes sense to me.

>666 was man trying to be god (man denoted as 3 or a trinity).

why not 3+6? 3*6? 3/6? why is 3 the deity instead of 1-1-1 or 111?

so thusfar we have 4 explanations:

		* Satan tries to duplicate God (??)
		* Biblical symbolism (tautology/1-1-1*6 numerology)
		* Carbon-based molecular life structure (6-6-6)
		* Kamea of Sol (??) (666 sum)

the first is not clear to me. the second is the most widely published.
the third is a modern invention, probably of CoSatanists, and the last
is ambiguous (as it is also associated with the Sun and Christ).

By mail & news.

As I recall the numerological explanation runs along these lines:

3 is the archetypal number of form (a rigid body requires a minimum of
3 sides), the correspondence being Binah. Three threes (333) however
represent form that will not yield to any circumstance or condition; it is
that which is incapable of change.

 2 is the number of manifestation, 2 x 333 = 666 = the manifestation of
ultimate paralysis. Compare with the picture of Satan in Dante's inferno.
