Interesting story. Amy Grant reportedly has been trying for
some time to shed the strictly Christian recording artist tag, and had
agreed to appear on the Howard Stern show. Until she caught wind of
some of the songs that Howard had written to would help her shed her
label. Songs like, "I Want To Use My Mouth" (sung to I Want To Hold
Your Hand.) Anyway, one of the songs that he wound up recording
himself was "Hail To Satan" (sung to Helter Skelter.) He said he had
more trouble getting people to help him with that song than any other
that he had ever done, due to the positive references to Satan. And
he has written some pretty racy, provocative (read: offensive to the
weak minded) songs.

A few weeks ago, Debbie Gibson had agreed to appear on the
Howard Stern show. The word was that she had been trying to lose her
bubble gum pop image. Howard thought he could help by rewriting some
old songs for her. Songs like, "I Like To Use My Mouth" (to the music
of I Want To Hold Your Hand) and such. Anyway, one of the songs that
he repenned for her (and later produced himself) was "Hail To Satan"
(Helter Skelter.) He said the he had more trouble making that song
than any other that he's done, due to its positive references to
Satan. People who had no problem producing songs like "I Love Sodomy"
(I Have To Be Free) and "Barbara Bush Looks Older Than She Ought To"
(Mrs. Jones You've Got A Lovely Daughter" wanted nothing to do with
it. It's incredible that people still fear such nonsense.
I bought an "I Love Satan" tee shirt from Rhubarb. You should
see some of the reactions that I get. I especially love when someone
inadvertently reads it aloud. I answer with a "Me too! Hail Satan!"
then watch them back pedal and try to explain that they were only
reading the shirt. ("Too late. See you in Hell!" Watch them run off
the church...) People amaze and amuse me. I can't help it.
