synthesis of a variety of philosophic concepts compatible with 'Satan' by
his vision, yes.  Nietzschean, Promethean, Romantic (poetry).

this is a true FAQ, one of the first in alt.satanism.  I'd suggest that
the following may clear it it quickly:

	FAQ: OrgSatanism History

	  1  Relation between CoS/ToS/LaVey/Aquino/etc.?

	*    a group inclusive of LaVey founded the Church of Satan 1966.

	*    members of the Church of Satan (whom I call CoSatanists) 
	     sometimes do and do not adopt LaVeyan ideology entire, 
	     and there have been membership terminations when differences 
	     became too pronounced.

	*    Aquino and LaVey discovered differences of theology, Aquino
	     founded ToS in 1975.  ('LaVeyan' appears to be a 
	     counter-religious feuding term, akin to 'Hinayana' indicating 
	     that Satanism derived of LaVey.)  

	*    the Temple of Set has been a separate organization from LaVey's 
	     Church of Satan since 1975, recently welcoming a new High 
	     Priest, Magus Don Webb.  its relationship to Satanism is 
	     variable depending on the meaning the term takes on in popular 
	     culture.

	*    there are a number of other organizations associated with
	     Satanism to one degree or another.  they are untrustworthy
	     in that they are organizations.  they are useful at times
	     for the opportunities of communication and support they allow.

	*    beware, get references when possible, investigate org history
	     and ideologies prior to establishing longlasting relations.
