You might laugh at this (or maybe cry), but I have not read SB yet (I'm > about to) and before I do... I was just wandering - what's exactly in it? The Satanic Bible consists of four seperate "books" and an introduction by Burton Wolfe. The four parts are the Books of Satan, Lucifer, Belial, and Leviathan. The Book of Satan is actually copied from "Might Is Right" by Ragnar Redbeard, and is a bunch of statements about ubermensch-living and despising Christianity. The Book of Lucifer sets forth some basic beliefs of LaVeyan Satanism, with some insightful (and humorous) points, although one gets little information about just who or what Satan is, or anything particularly deep or metaphysical. The Book of Belial sets forth some basic theories on the LaVeyan theories of magical practice, which are good, but, yes, very basic. And the Book of Leviathan contains some actual Satanic rituals, one for blessing, one for lust, and one for destruction or cursing. These are followed by the Enochian Keys or Calls, which are a Judeo-Christian occultist text which LaVey has altered by changing all the references to God into "Satan." It's a fun and informative book to read, and especially valuable for the newbie or the person seeking a basic, non-threatening introduction to Satanism. It is not, however, the be-all and end-all of Satanic belief and practice, nor do all Satanists by any means accept it as authoritative. > 2. What are the rituals of the Satanic Mass? A "Black Mass" is a mockery of the Catholic Christian Mass, or, more broadly, of any ritual considered sacred. One good version of a Black Mass can be found in LaVey's second book, _The Satanic Rituals_. The Black Mass is not regularly practiced by most Satanists and is usually regarded as a cathartic ritual, designed for initiates who feel the need to let go of previous Christian (or other) indoctrination. I, for example, have never attended church services in my life, and thus have felt no need to engage in a Black Mass, nor have I ever done so. Of course, it also can serve simply to make fun, in which case the Black Mass has more of the aspect of a party than a serious ritual. > > -- > Izabela Wysoka > sachmet@friko.onet.pl > > -Jason "You shall become as gods." _______________________________________ University of Arizona poseyj@u.arizona.edu 1550 N Euclid Ave, #6 Tucson, AZ 85719 (520) 792-0767
