50000131 IVom Hail Satan!

veronionova@hotmail.com issues a usenet survey:
>> > How/when did you figure out that Satanism was your way of life?

SOD of CoE filled it out:
>> it isn't, it is my religion.

>> > What is your personal opinion of Christianity and Christians?
>>
>> I identify as Christian. religions are constrictive.

sri catyananda (cat@luckymojo.com):
> If Satanism is your religion but religions are constrictive,
> why bother having Satanism as a religion,

because restriction is valuable as a discipline, especially where
that restriction serves the purposes of assisting those with whom
I am ostensibly allied (e.g. the wild, Satan). restriction or
constriction (I find it interesting that I used the latter, as
I usually describe it as the former) are essential for movement
and achievement. this is the reason that such social structures
military and monarchic governments have achieved such extensive
changes (restriction to simple authority structure, honing of
resource use to prescribed ends).

> why not just "identify as" Satanist as you do with Christianity?

to 'identify as' is not merely an appearance-based activity for me.
by this I mean that I consider myself to BE Christian, even though
I am not formally a part of any particular church. I have no doubt
that I could find a church with which I could become affiliated,
in which case I would be a Christian Satanist in a religious,
rather than merely spiritual, sense. as it is I feel that I am
living the spirit of the Christian gospel by entering into the
role of Christ within my sphere. this is what I consider to be
the most important communication of the Jesus mythos (self-
sacrifice for a greater good; I'm only now beginning to
identify this role in my new environs).

Satanism is individually-driven. as a phenomenon it appears to be
ANTI-religious religion. it manifests in RESPONSE to religion,
in REACTION to it. that is why I have associated the Virosaivite
saints with Satanism and why I think that LaVey's identification
of the Yezidi bears close scrutiny (I'm not yet aware of how they
have arisen, but their theology seems similar in many ways to
the attitude taken by the Balinese about the demonic -- appeasement-
based).

in another post you have valuably questioned my usage of the phrase
'my religion' with respect to Satanism (as I have made it clear that
one of the most common fallacies about Satanism is that it IS 'a
religion'). I think of Satanism as comparable to daDa in the realm
of art. as daDa is a kind of anti-art art, so is Satanism a kind
of anti-religious religion.

when I have spoken about what "my religion" is I am getting at
what my relationship is with my contextual culture. it is my
role within the culture in which I have been raised. this is
exactly the reason that I was so very taken by the Church of
Euthanasia as a vehicle for my Satanism. its focus (supporting
wild nature) and method (daDa) falls precisely into line with
what constitutes the essential path I am walking in my life with
respect to that which I'm seeing around me (in Northern CA,
turn of the 20th century, urban and suburban environments).

when I have expressed my observation that Satanism is "not a
religion" I am contrasting Herd-inspiring social edifices that
establish tradition, subsume the individual genius to priestly
goading and leadership. in this sense Satanism can never be 'a
religion' as it sacrifices the principle of individualism for
traditional continuation.

while my recent re-orientation within a more rural living
context has provided an extreme challenge to see what of my
disciplines would remain intact and which would again
resurface, I think that my role remains the same here as in
urban centers. after having spent so much time in the Land
of the Dead (inhabited by the demonspirits of Asphalta,
Cementia, Metallica and Polymera), dwelling on the actual
Battle Ground (more mammals still alive here, larger tracts
of land being gardenified and paved over, etc.) has given
me incentive to establish personal rites and self-restraint
in obvious ways that impact and communicate the true horror
of what we are doing as a culture to the living being with
whom we share a role in Gaia.

for example, one idea I had this morning includes stopping
the vehicle every time I am driving past a dead animal on
the road and holding a service for its death, with a great
deal of ceremony. some of these ideas pan out, some do not.
I like to think 'what if everyone with my values did this?'
my Satanist activities tend to disrupt or run counter to
the conventional 'economic' sense (cf. Schumacher on how
'economy' can be re-interpreted to more humane and
compassionate values).

blessed beast!
