Blackreaver: Modern Satanism

[from alt.satanism: "Blackreaver" ]

Depending upon what specific flavor of Satanism you're interested in, you
don't have to believe in any "god or satan".

You're liable to get different stories depending on whom you ask; you've
been warned.

Modern Satanism began on April 30, 1966, when Anton Szandor LaVey founded
the Church of Satan. Number one good book to obtain regarding Satanism:
_The Satanic Bible_, by Dr. LaVey. It's widely available in the US; it
should be in Nova Scotia as well. Any reputable bookseller should be able
to order a copy if they don't stock it. This is "the book that started it
all", as they say.

In 1975, a group splintered off from the CoS to form the Temple of Set.
There is much bad blood and misinformation between the CoS and the ToS.
Again, you've been warned. As far as I can tell, the CoS and ToS are the
largest Satanic organizations, but there are a number of others as well.

Since you have access to usenet, I'm going to assume you have access to the
WWW, as well. Check out

http://www.cris.com/~Amon1/satanism/frameless.html

for links to a number of articles giving perspectives on Satanism from a
number of different groups (including the CoS and the ToS).

That should be a good start.
