To: zazas-l@hollyfeld.org (ZAZAS-L Satanist Elist) From: tyagi@houseofkaos.abyss.com (nocTifer) Subject: (Z) Wiccan Ethics and Malefic Magick Date: Wed, 30 Sep 1998 15:29:23 -0700 (PDT) 980928 IIIom Hail Satan! (fwd from a private elist) RE when it is appropiate to cast a hex or curse, what other options should be considered leading up to a hex or curse ------------------------------------------------------------ it is appropriate to cast a hex or curse whenever one is angry or wants revenge and is sufficiently powerful to deal with the repercussions. the ethical constraints or guidelines within which one lives determine the options which should be considered prior to the effecting of any hex or curse. if one desires to live by a firm and judgemental religious moral standard (e.g. the Golden Rule -- fraught with illogic in queer contexts -- or some absolute restraint from 'harm' that includes refraining from all action), then other options which should be considered would be nonviolent attempts to resolve the matter inspiring anger or revenge. cf. traditions of nonviolent conflict resolution such as that of MKGandhi. RE the "Law of Threefold Return"/Karma and Maleficent Magick ------------------------------------------------------------ the Law of Threefold Return (which I call 'the Law of Revenge') is an acknowledgement of a *social* dynamic which operates within social environments of Neopagan witches who have decided that certain interpretations of the term 'harm' in their Rede should be considered absolute and see no problem with 'becoming the Retributive Hand of the Goddess' in response to what they perceive as 'wrongdoings' by their peers or inferiors (whether or not they admit this to themselves). Karma is a principle of cosmic morality from which this Law of Revenge derives (at its most conservative and judgemental), and institutes the moral discernments of the religious authority of preference while projecting the responsibility for this moralism upon the character of the gods. its most valuable mystical significance has to do with its literal meaning, ACTION, and relates to the fact that one associates oneSELF with the motivation and achievement of the act in question. for example, in my favored cosmological interpretation of Buddhism, this karma or action inspires us to reconstruct a fantasy 'self' (atman, or soul) which perserveres through time and beyond death. all good Satanists and realistic witches understand that this is a fiction designed to pacify the masses so as to avoid existential angst about the finality and beauty of the individual animal, bodily life. maleficent magick may be carried out without repercussion if one is crafty (typically concealing one's activities from the victims or those who would judge one, perhaps targetting only those who clearly deserve the wrath) and sufficiently self- resolved (considering maleficent workings to be sanctified and just based on one's coincidence with the divine or the absence of any cosmic justice-enforcer). RE how to avoid this Law or the negative repercussion of maleficent workings: -------------------------------------------------------- be sure that you are reconciled with the ethical framework that allows for revenge-oriented and/or antagonistic magick. those who are not may either subvert the success of their spells or bring about 'consequences for sin' which derive from moralizing religious traditions which squelch the will of their converts. be careful to whom you describe your workings if you are at all attached to responses from coworkers, friends and family. it is likely none of their business unless you are quite strong and honest in your dealings, they may influence you unfavorably if they have had any sort of power in your life, and since the Law of Revenge works socially, if it does not become a part of the social jabbertalky, it will only very slowly leak into culture of which one may be part. resist the temptation to malign others haphazardly and without careful consideration. targetting only those who are socially maladjusted and sociopathic will gain more support from those not hamstringed by religious snares and will reserve the sometimes intense energies associated with such rites for very important occasions. RE origin of karma, entity responsible for its inception, how morality is adjudicated, why those who don't believe in karma avoid its repercussions: ----------------------------------------------------------- 'karma' is a Sanskrit word, very ancient and with a great diversity of meaning dependent upon the religious community that put it to use (sometimes moralistically, sometimes more mystically). usually the Cosmic God of choice (if there is one) is attributed with the power of karma-enforcement or (if the religious are more monistic and depersonalizing), there is supposed some metaphysical mechanism (karma itself or transcending it) by which karma is perpetuated and accounted. those who truly have no belief in karma or any sort of cosmic accounting system (cf. Santa and Good and Bad Boys and Girls) may be able to transcend the bounceback problem if they have not integrated a programming that requires direct repercussion (rather than INdirect, depending on the compassion of the mage) for forbidden acts. bypassing this moralistic quagmire, it is quite possible that no repercussion enters into one's life (sometimes to the consternation of those who judge them to be acting 'wrongly'). blessed beast! ______________________________________________________________________ nocTifer: tyagi@houseofkaos.abyss.com --- http://www.abyss.com/tokus TOKUS-COE Office: 408/2-666-SLUG --- Emergency Contraception:18005849911 ____________...oooOOO---zazas-l@hollyfeld.org---OOOooo..._____________ To unsubscribe send "unsubscribe" to zazas-l-request@hollyfeld.org To unsubscribe your@email.com send "unsubscribe your@email.com" To subscribe send "subscribe" to zazas-l-request@hollyfeld.org http://www.hollyfeld.org/heaven
