To: alt.tarot From: Paul HumeSubject: Re: 22 Paths?? Date: Fri, 20 Dec 1996 01:18:49 -0500 Hilander - The Tree as used in the magical qabala (with the, as noted, late accretion of Tarot trumps to the Paths) is an older design, indicating the "fall" from Eden by the loss of free passage in the higher Sephiroth, and poor old Malkuth hanging by a thread over the qliphoth. > Was wondering if someone could explain why there are only 22 paths > between the Sephiroth on the Tree of Life. Specifically, why isn't > there a path between Binah and Chesed and a path between Chokma and > Geburah? A symmetrical Tree was proposed by the profound qabalistic thinker, Isaac Luria, in the 15th-16th century. Note that the attribution of the Letters to the Paths are also very different under that pattern. This conception of the Tree is presented with exquisite commentary in Aryeh Kaplan's edition of the Sepher Yetzirah (from Weiser). Regards, Paul
