To: alt.mythology From: steiner@best.com (Sharon A. Steiner) Subject: [The Morrigan; Was] Re: triple goddesses Date: 29 Dec 1994 22:18:37 GMT Quoting: |harlq444@philaonline.com | The Three Faces of War? Sharon, could you please make an attempt at |explaining why this title is applied to the Morrigain?|I would especially be interested if you or anybody knows the |mythological reasoning for this name, but any speculation appreciated. The Morrigan is the Goddess of war in the Irish pantheon. She is also a collectivity consisting of Anu, Badhbh, and Macha the Triple Goddess of fate. Sorry about the mispelling as my spell checker does not have a lot of myth names in it. The name means Demon Queen, or Queen of Demons according to my sources. Other names you may hear is The Battle Crow, as she is seen at the battle in the guise of a crow. She can direct the war, as well as tidy up the place after, thus the guise of the crow. I hope this is what you want if not let me Know. Sharon (using her husband's account)
