To: alt.fan.kali.astarte.inanna From: tyagi@shell.portal.com (tyagi mordred nagasiva) Subject: Kali (quote) Date: 49940610 Quoting: Genia P. Haddon Fearsome, Playful Kali: Our Mother When you were a little girl, did you ever sit on your mother's lap and play peek-a-boo? When you shut your eyes, Mother disappeared. You opened them, and there she was! Then her eyes shut... and you watched closely every moment until suddenly they opened again, and "Peek-a-boo!" Sometimes God is like that. God is such a great-great Mother, the whole world is Her baby. God is plalying with the world, and She shuts Her eyes. Then all our lives we try to catch the great Mother peeking at us. And if any of us do look into the eyes of God, in that moment we recognize Her and know for sure that we are in Her image, strong and loving and wise. Does a mother love her baby when she is hiding from her? Why of course! Why else play at hiding? Though her ideas are long shut, we need never be afraid, for She is laughing and enjoying the play all the while. Sometimes we do feel frightened. Sometimes it seems that She has abandoned us altogether, and that Her eyes will stay shut forever. In truth it is that we have never tired of playing and have looked away to soon. In Her own good time God will end this play and we will be able to look into Her eyes deeply and forever. Our great Mother is everywhere. Even when She seems to be far away, it is only that you cannot see Her eyes. But really She is always there, always loving, and always ready to play with Her children. There is another game of hide-and-seek that the great Mother plays. She hides sometimes in other people. She hides in anything. Any day you might see her eyes, just looking into the eyes of a sister or brother. While hiding in someone, She herself once said (he spoke the words for Her), 'Who is my mother and who are my brothers and sisters? Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these, you have done it to me." Truly, She is every- where. Did you ever lift a stone or break open a piece of wood to see what was inside? Did you recognize God there at the heart of things? 'Left the stone and thou shalt find Me. Cleave the wood, and there am I!' Oh, how beautifully She plays! Why you might find Her anywhere. _Body Metaphors_, by Genia P. Haddon, Crossroad Publishing, 1988. tyagi tyagi@houseofkaos.abyss.com
