When I was in high school, the Latin teacher was a drop out Catholic Priest. While a Priest he had devoted his life to the study of Peter, and had spent several years in the basement catacombs of the Vatican reading old scrolls and such that had been omitted from the teachings of the church. The more he studied, the more conflict he saw between what he studied and the church he was a Priest in, and eventually dropped out of the Catholic Priesthood. He told interesting stories of Peter. He said that Peter originally taught that nobody should bother getting married - because the day of the second coming was at hand soon, and there wouldn't be time to raise a family, etc. He also said that Peter was enamoured with women, and made a general practice of *loving* as many as he could, which was both his practice and teaching. Part of why he quit the Priesthood was to practice the amourous teachings of Peter rather than the celebacy of the church. It seems that the teachings of Paul were anti-body and the basis for much current (and historical) antagonism for sexuality. It has always been a conflict in xian theology. Blessed Be!
