To: alt.lucky.w,alt.religion.orisha,alt.magick.tyagi From: Tata MitchellSubject: Re: Smoked Possum Meat Date: Fri, 04 Aug 2000 10:17:39 GMT Nsala Malecum and Greetings Cat, Tata Eoghan, OmiJuba and John, I have also fed my Eleggua and a certain Eshu a Possum previously however either thru the way in which I later smoked some Possum meat or the fact they prefered smoked Juta, they both indicated they prefered smoked Juta when it was availiable. Possum's as briefly outlined by Tata Eoghan are very hot blooded regarding an eje offering as well as Juta's. Possums' are hardcore and many domestic animals in these parts are fooled into thinking they are some type of large timid rat. Their mistake, they are vicious when cornered and can rip up domestic cats and dogs if given the choice. The Chinese laborers building the NorthWestern California-Oregon railroad systems in the 1800's brought over this animal for food. Presently Possums are found here in many roadsides and ditchs in these parts. There are several body parts of the Possum which Eleggua specifically wants, enjoys and has an affinty to. Acouple of them have been mentioned, as far as I know the smallish skull is one of the bones used in bone divination. Their skulls are somewhat delicate to clean without using beetles etc. to clean them totally for you. The other item which Eleggua likes from a possum is found by divination. Possum s often travel at night with their poorish eyesight but keen sense of smell and in some towns literally walk many of the streets after sundown. When they hiss they sound like some kind of giant rat. The Coyote also appears to have an affinity with Eleggua, Eshu and my Lucero. There is a nearby outdoor ritual area which I use from time to time where the Coyotes often quietly come during a ritual and either observe quietly or sing in stereo as the rituals are carried out.
