The more data included (ingredients list, procedural directions, traditional history, author or source, personal experience, magical record), the more likely i am to archive it. b) In my opinion, the creation of a self-deluding fantasy may be suspected when one is told about a fabulopusly powerful spell but no spell is given; when unsupported and unwitnessed statements are made by a person claiming to be involved in performing truly extraordinary magical acts (e.g. claiming one has been magically attacked, claiming to have vanquished a magical foe); when the statements do not take the form of a magical record of the act of magical performed; when no source or raditional system for the spell -work is mentioned, when no list iof ingredients or method of proceeding is given. The more data NOT included (ingredients list, propcedure, traditional history, author or source, personal experience, magical record) and the more the story resembles a plot from RPG or fantasy fiction (e.g. witch-wars, evil sorcerers), the more likely i am to consider the account unarchivable as a spell. Remember the "the method of science, the aim of religion"? Well, not every act of magic has "the aim of religion," but "the method of science" is a good rough guideline to separate the archivable from the unarchivable, in my opinion. cat yronwode Lucky Mojo Spells Archive ------ http://www.luckymojo.com/spells.html No personal e-mail, please; just catch me in usenet; i read it daily.
