I have met some folks into Wicca who believe that one should not take a spell off of another person without the person's request. Assuming your friend has requested help -- or that you are an atypical Wiccan who will perform a curse removal without specific request -- the best i can say is that removing curses from others, in my tradition of folk magic comes in two forms: either you work directly on the person (who is called a client, whether or not he or she is paying you, is a family member, or just a friend) or you work indirectly for the client. The way you mentioned above -- adapting a spell for curse removal from personal to other-directed is a good example of the indirect method. It is often quite effective, especially if you have the client's cooperation and have a magical link donated by the client, such as a piece of hair, name-paper, etc. Any good curse-breaking or uncrossing spell can work, if applied this way. Another method of curse removal is more direct -- in my tradition it can involve bathing or rubbing the client or prescribing baths or teas to drink, or smoking them in an herb like Aspand. Any of the direct methods can also be done while at the same time performing an indirect spell, such as the setting of lights (candles) or working with magical link type objects. I personally prefer the direct type of spell, where the client is given baths, rub-downs, and/or a tea to drink because they become more involved in the work and it often has a more positive and demonstrably rapid effect than if i merely work for them indirectly. I have written a few web pages about such work and other posters to alt.magick and alt.paranormal.spells.hexes.magic have contributed spells of their own. The pages are free to read, and most of them require few supplies beyond candles and some herbs. Here are a few URLs that may help. They come from various cultures and inlcude a number of different methods to take off a jinx, curse, or evil eye, and to clease oneself or a client.
