Subject: Re: Casting a Circle >"Jennifer LaPierre"50020922 VII Happy Equinox! Happy Lunatix! om kali om! > So you don't need to cast a circle every time you cast a spell. I don't, but some people do, apparently. there are people who report that their spells and rituals must begin with some kind of banishing ritual (e.g. Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram), and some magicians and witches are assiduous at making sure such things begin *and* end the rites with which they are involved. a good number of others do no such thing, create a magical working chamber, a mobile magical energy battery, energetic circle (attached to an amulet), use nothing at all in attunement to the natural forces available everywhere, or reserving their magical activities for their personal and private time (unseen, unobserved, even should it be inoffensive). > But when should you cast a circle? when it serves your spell. if the formula calls for it -- the author or designer of the spell you wish to follow calls for making a circle, say for protection or for containment, then you'd want to create such a circle and be familiar with the practice generally. training with some witches can facilitate this, or solitary experimentation may serve. > Should you do it for spells that require a lot of energy? that is a popular motivation for the use of a magic circle, yes. it is said that the energy may be more cohesively directed and manifest as and when the caster desires and manipulates. if nothing else, it could provide an intensified connection to the equipment, spellcrafting area, and their local relations to the world (grounding and centering). the most important thing you can discover is whether they work FOR YOU. if it attracts you, you're asking all the right questions in learning about them and I encourage you to get a diverse sounding from the world, reflecting what you obtain back to the forums to which this was posted for the benefit of those who practice magic and enjoy practical observations. :> tyaginator
