Is this like a curse, would one of those "love spells" > fit in the category of a binding or is it a binding only when it > is to prevent rather than to cause action? I have to say I think a binding can be coercive as well as prohibitive. That is, one can bind someone to at least tend to a given action (lust spells, spells to cause discord, spells to influence others, etc.) as well as binding them to refrain from an action. Again, harking back to the analogy with physical force, once you have a control/submission hold on someone, their behavior can be influenced in different ways. > I heard of some vampires who had experienced binding > and found it sometimes hard on their health, and would > gradually undo it. Bindings (or any "maintained" spells) tend to unravel, esp. if they are contrary to the desire (much less the Will) of the target. A knockout or killing force, which does its work and then ends, leaving palpable, physical or mental damage in its wake, to heal on its own in the course of nature, is a different kettle of fish altogether. So binding psychic vampires (I assume that is the kind in question!) is a temporary expedient, like giving a drunk antabuse therapy (makes them sick if they take alcohol). It might provide a wedge to begin altering the behavior, but it is itself not a change or cure, etc. Mind you, again, the ETHICS (as opposed to mechanics) vary wildly. Binding someone who has already initiated an attsck, by force or guile, is not the same as binding someone who hasn't. Paul
