"The Tao"posted this bebelfish translation of a French web page by Spartakus Freemann about Paschal Beverly Randolph and his French translator Maria de Naglowska. The robot-translation is a hoot, but it can be followed; however, it needs to be noted that Spartakus Freemann's biographical material on Randolph contains errors that arose because his source, Maria de Naglowska had repeated spurious information generated by R. Swinburne Clymer, an American who was republishing Randolph's works in the 1930s. In particular, Randolph's mother was not "Madagascan" but American and Randolph's first marriage was not to an "Indian woman" -- Mary Jane Randolph was a Free Woman of Colour, part African, part Native American (Indian). For a true biography of Randolph, please see the book: "Paschal Beverly Randolph: A Nineteenth Century Black American Spiritualist, Rosicrucian, and Sex Magician" by John Patrick Deveney State University of New York Press, 1997 ISBN 0-7914-3120-7 (paperbound) ISBN 0-7914-3119-3 (hardbound) Other errors made by Spartakus Freemann are based in his naive belief that the material that Maria de Naglowska added to Randolph's writing when she published her supposed French translation of his work was actually by Randolph, not by de Naglowska. In particular, the description of 5 sexual positions is de Naglowska's, not Randolph's. For a comparison between the original Randolph texts and de Naglowska's embellishments, please see the archived posts at http://www.luckymojo.com/esoteric/occultism/magic/var200108randolphnaglowska.txt -------------------------------------------- from http://www.morgane.org/randolph+eulis.html via babelfish Subject: Sexual Magic P.B. Randolph, the Fraternity of Eulis and Maria de Naglowska By Spartakus Freemann - June 2000 e.v. With the dawn of a new era, it appears significant to make a (Re -) discovery of the magic path introduced by Kellner, Reuss and Crowley . Accordingly, we propose through these some lines to recall the life and the work of two of the principal initiators of the Sexual Magic. The first, a man of XIXe century, Pascal Beverly Randolph, will dare to write and publish works treating of sexuality and especially of the sexual magic within a nation and one century still too puritan. The second, Maria de Naglowska, a woman of XXe century, will teach and initiate, using the Gold Mass, the paddle of the Third Term, the paddle of the reign of the Holy Spirit incarné by the Mother, after that of the Father, represented by the Judaism and that of the Son, represented by Christianity. A man... a woman, the polarity is thus respected. Can their work fertilize and open the Way of a released hierogamy of any moralism Judeo-Christian, killer of life, and any pornographism cathodic-liberal, killer of dream. P.B. Randolph Pascal Berverly Randolph was born on October 8, 1825 in New York from a mongrel mother - origins free-Madagascan -, Flora Beverly, and of a father doctor, Edmund Randolph. The marriage will not last and Flora must raise her child alone. With its death, it will be raised by a half-sister who will neglect her education and will leave the child delivered to itself. Towards the 15 years age, it leaves the family residence to engage in the navy. It thus traverses all the oceans in a few years. It is formed there the character in contact with sailors resulting from mediums and different nations. With the 20 years age, Randolph is victim of an accident which obliges it to leave the marine. He undertakes studies of medicine then. At the same time, in the atmosphere of spiritism incipient from the Fox sisters, Randolph starts to be interested in magnetism of Mesmer and his implications as for the animal polarity which will have an impact on its own theories on the condensers of fluids and the volts. In 1850, it Marie with an Indian of the name of Mary Jane and at the same time, it is initiated within " Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor " (directed then by Peter Davidson). In 1855, it goes to Germany where it comes into contact with Fraternity Rosae Crucis in which it will be initiated soon. It seems that there is not any document known as for this initiation. One can only conjecture as for the exact date and with the ceremony in itself. However, according to Clymer, one of the successors of Randolph, no one could not reach with the Philosophical rank of Initiate within the F.R.C. without to be received beforehand within a Dome and y to be recognized Néophyte and placed under the control and the instruction of a Master. Randolph would have become Suprême Grand Master of Supreme the Large Dome in America in 1858. Randolph will spend a few months to Paris in 1854 during which it will meet Eliphas Levi, one of the largest occultists of his time. He will study work of Saint-Germain and Cagliostro. He discovers there the work written on Ansaireth or Nusairis of Syria, these mysterious people which is neither Jewish, neither Christian nor even Moslem. They would be famous Yezidis, admirers of the Paon god. According to Randolph himself, the head of Ansaireth, Narek El Gebel, which arrived at the third Dome Rose Croix of Paris with letters of introduction, grateful as Randolph the required aptitudes, invited it to come to Syria to study there with Ansaireth. A little later Randolph undertakes an initiatory tour in Turkey, in Greece as well as in the Middle East to look further into the secret teaching of Ansaireth there. In 1860, Randolph forms his own American Conseil of the F.R.C. and sets out again soon for London in order to meet Bulwer Lytton and Kenneth Mackenzie there. On return to the United States, Randolph takes part in the American Civil War which has just burst while being enrolled in the rows of the Union and while raising a troop of black soldiers, known under the name of " Fremont Legion ". At the end of the hostilities, Randolph militates for the rights of the blacks. The assassination of Lincoln disillusions him of the policy and he then decides to be established definitively as doctor in Boston. He opens there soon a new Lodge of his own. He starts to write his principal works: "Seership", "Coils and the Master Passion ", "Eulis and the History of Love" like his masterly "Magia Sexualis". In 1872, the publication of this last book is worth to him to be stopped for incentive with the free love but it is quickly released. The large fire which devastates Boston completely destroyed the office and the laboratory of Randolph, the original boards of its books are lost. It is denounced by the spiritualistic ones as being a libertine and his/her own friends start to be diverted of him. In May 1873, Randolph undergoes an accident which lets to him foresee its nearest end. It is darkest at this time of its life that it meets once again the love in the person of a young feminist activist, Kate Corson. The marriage is soon celebrated and, in 1874, is born a son, Osiris Budh, that Randolph regards as a god since designed according to his own magic principles. Randolph continues to publish his work and to animate a circle of the Fraternity of Eulis. July 29, 1875 Randolph dies in circumstances which remain mysterious: Maria de Naglowska will claim that Blavatsky would have delivered an occult war to him which caused its death, according to others, it would be a suicide and finally, for some, it would be deceased at the time of a magic rite... It seems however that with its death, its purely magic sexual gasoline teaching disappears, occulted, perhaps, by its close relations. When Clymer contacts the woman and the son of Randolph, those claim nothing to know particular instructions and treating hardware of the sexual doctrines. They insist only on the spiritual and moral character of the work of Randolph by rejecting the sexual magic side. The Fraternity of Eulis The Fraternity of Eulis will be founded about 1870 by Randolph as a body of teaching complementary to that of Fraternitas Rosae Crucis. Perhaps the key of the comprehension of the Fraternity of Eulis resides in the booklet published by Randolph in 1875, "The Book of the Triplicate Order, Rosicrucia, Eulis, Pythianae" in which he is written: "We are triple organization, Rosicrucian initially because we are the heirs to this Fraternity and their successors, and like such, we cultivate all sciences of knowledge and to this end, we are interested in all that is abtruse, unknown and which corresponds to the major aspects of nature and to the most subtle depths of the unsoundable human heart. "We are Pythianae because we are of Pythagoriciens who maintain the most intimate relations with the Foundation the Universe - God of Nature and his Heart - and with the spiritual and invisible world, just as the thirst for a greater knowledge and the truest friendship with our Brothers and the World. "We are Eulis because we cultivate the most invaluable treasures of the thought which was transmitted to us through the ages; and we translate our Eastern name" Marek Gebel " - Gate of the Light - by Eulis or the Gate of the Paddle, name by which, for this period, the Third Temple, the Triple Command, the Brotherhood and Fraternity will be henceforth known. " This text, which is designed for the use of the members of Fraternity and the candidates to initiation, also draws up a history of the Command. The candidates are received by vote using black and white balls. The Command is mixed and comprises 3 degrees: Builder, Architect and Knight of the Temple for the men; Builder, Matrone and Sister of the Temple for the women. There is also a supreme organization: the Lodge of the Pierre Angulaire of which the Council is composed Brothers and Sisters: Hiérarques or Melchizedeks, Hiérophantes and Senators. With the death of Randolph in 1875, Freeman B Dowd takes the head of the F.R.C. and the Fraternity of Eulis. In 1878, Dowd form a Grand Lodge in Philadelphia and in 1907, at the time of its retirement, the succession is ensured by Edward Brown. With the death of Brown in 1922, R.S. Clymer succeeds. Born in 1878, Clymer will be received like Néophyte within the F.R.C. and of the Fraternity of Eulis in 1897. In 1906, it publishes its the first two works " The Rosicrucians, Their Teachings " and " Philosophy of Fire ". In 1911, it decides to be installed in Quakertown on the site of Berverly Hall where it establishes the seat of the Command. Clymer will enter soon in conflict with Lewis and her A.M.O.R.C. (Ancient and Mystical Order of the Rosicrucian brotherhood). With other initiates, it sets up the F.U.D.O.S.F.I. (Universal Federation of the Commands, Companies and Fraternities Initiatory) in order to fight Lewis and the influence of the F.U.D.O.S.I. (Universal Federation of the Commands and Initiatory Companies). Magia Sexualis In the lines which will follow, we will endeavour to describe very briefly certain points of the magic doctrines of Randolph. Fluids and the Polarization of the sexes. The Universe like all being alive for them, without any exception, is governed by the principle of the contrary forces which exert one on the other an absolute capacity of attraction. Some name them positive force and negative force and others rediscover in them the good and the bad one, the emission and the reception, the life and death, the man and the woman. Thus, the pole female attracts the male and one can thus attract with oneself things wished by the creation of his opposite model: to create the negative one to obtain the reverse and thus the positive one! The phallus of the positively polarized man and the ktéis of the woman polarized negatively and the brain of the man are polarized negatively and of magnetic essence whereas that of the woman is positively and of electric essence. Sexual magic operations. According to the teachings of Randolph, the sexual magic operations concluded according to rules', work towards 7 major ends: loading of the fluidic condensers and the "Volts"; production of an influence and a magnetic fluid; realization of a precise project; determination of the sex of the child to be conceived; refinement of the directions; rejuvenation of Vital Energy; provocation of superhuman visions. Randolph gives also certain principles which it is significant to know for including/understanding well and carrying out the magic exercises: Sexual union considered as prayer. The man who lives with his wife in subtle and perfect harmony and who practises in couple a perfect sex act manages to obtain the realization of certain wishes. But it is necessary that the request clear and is formulated clearly by the two operative ones. It is advisable to practise the sex act with a woman higher at the moral level, one never should use of prostitute or an ignorant virgin or minor of less than 18 years. It is preferable always to achieve these acts with its partner. It is necessary that the male and female spasm occur at the same time because it results a mental current then from it being able to modify the astral one. The shared pleasure then undergoes the law of the opposite polarization of the couple: at the man, the sex is positive and the negative head and at the woman, the sex is negative and the positive head. The man thus physically fertilizes the woman and the woman fertilizes the man spiritually. The union of the flesh must be innocent and not to be a simple search for physical pleasure. The body must be healthy and respected hygiene as a royal practice It is necessary to maintain the secrecy as for the magic operations and to try to avoid the contacts society men during the magic preparations of operations. One must formulate his desires in advance and not forget to formulate it at the time of the coitus. Before, during and after the act of love, it is necessary to keep in mind a clear image of what one wishes. It is necessary to eat simply and prefer natural food. To take the air per week twice: to inspire deeply and keep the air longest possible. Not to too often seek the contact with its partner. To make love 1 with twice per week. Not to seek the act if one is sick or in anger. To sleep well never not to forget the axiom: the Love is bases it life. At the moment when sperm enters the body of the woman is the most fertile moment, of the greatest power and the greatest emotion. If a man wishes something and that it keeps this one with the spirit from the moment when he penetrates until the moment when it is withdrawn from the woman, this wishes will be raised with all the blows. All the forces and the power of emanate on the female side of God. Randolph advises 5 positions for the sexual acts of magic: The man laid down on the woman face against face. The purpose of this position is to correct the directions and the capacities of the operative ones. Out of greyhound bitch, the man holding the right bust to penetrate behind the prostrate woman. This position is supposed to support the projection of the influence towards outside on a person chosen, a voult... The man and the woman sat face to face, sexes encased, the busts inclined behind while being held by the hands. This position reinforces the magic influences on outside. The man and the woman sat face to face, the woman crossing the legs around the kidneys of the man, both face against face. This position allows the realization of wishes commun run . Out of greyhound bitch, but the man bends down on the back of the woman and presses his chin on his nape of the neck. This position makes it possible to influence the woman. Fluidic condensers. The Magic is a science, the only science which studies, theoretically and practically, the greatest forces of Nature, those which are hidden. It declares and proves that the Universe is in its least subject parts with the influence of certain fluids which are at the base of all the physical and psychic phenomena. To be able to operate these forces, it is advisable to concentrate them in a point given for then redirecting them according to its will. These operations of condensation can be carried out in 4 different ways: The operator can use his own energy He can use external forces by induction He can bind the forces external to an individual who was selected for this purpose He can bind these forces to an object envisaged for this purpose The latter is known since millenia as the "load of the volt". There are various types of materials which one can use to condense the fluids: two liquids (paintings applied to a talisman and liquids preserved in bottles) and a solid (volts and statuettes). Volts and statuettes The use of the volts results from the observation of the laws of correspondence, sympathy and polarization. The voults are figurines which are prepared in a particular way, with the assistance of the laws of correspondence and sympathy, and which is charged with the psychic force with an individual in order to obtain a positive or negative result. It should be noticed that all these magic operations are not to in no case matters with vices or vulgar ritualized coucheries but well of a spiritual search. The orgasme is sanctified and becomes magic. According to Randolph: "... Beyond the union of the flesh, aim at the union of the hearts " Maria de Naglowska This short rush of the animated life of Maria de Naglowska is inspired by the work of Marc Pluquet "Sophiale". Maria de Naglowska was born on August 15, 1883 in Saint-Petersburg. She loses her parents very young: her father, a soldier of high row, will be poisoned by a nihilist and her mother will deceased in 1895. Orphan, she is dealt with by her aunt who will place her in an institute for young aristocrats. She will make brilliant studies there. The events and the revolutionary ideas of 1905 do not leave her indifferent and she starts to attend closed circles of intellectuals who will open the gates of knowledge to her. Maria falls in love with a young musician named Hopenko. The Jewish origins and the trade of this one prohibit any official union with the two lovers. They leave Russia to settle in Berlin then in Switzerland where they marry. Maria continues her university studies there while following the courses simultaneously in several faculties. To make remain the couple and make it possible to her husband to finish his training of musician, it gives particular courses It is at that time that are born their three children: Alexandre, Marie and Andre. Hopenko allured by the ideas Zionists decides to leave for Palestine by leaving behind him his wife and her children. Maria then continues to teach all while launching out in journalism and while belonging to the conferences. But these activities and the publication of a book are worth to her to be imprisoned for political activities and espionage. She must then leave Geneva for Bern then for Basle. Maria leaves soon Switzerland for Italy where it settles in Rome. She recovers to teach and becomes writer of the newspaper "Italy". She then makes come her children from Switzerland but Alexandre leaves to join his father in Palestine. Soon the problems re-appear: Maria loses her employment and must give again lesson at any price to survive. In Rome, Marie attend a group of writer occultistes and she is in contact with contact de this medium that it make the knowledge of a philosopher Russian which him reveal the tradition Boréennes the more secret. Alexandre who succeeded in taking down a good station in Alexandria in the Stud farms of the king, makes come Maria, his sister and his brother. Maria is quickly invited there to make organized conferences, between-others, by the Théosophique Company. She becomes also writer for the newspaper "Stock Exchange Alexandria". In 1930, Maria returns to Rome, her friends find to him a place in a publisher in Paris where Maria leaves to be established. Unfortunately, she does not obtain the authorization to work in France and must count on her André son to survive. Maria is established then in Montparnasse where she becomes acquainted with writers, artists and poets. She makes soon publish a magic weekly magazine: "The Arrow". She then establishes her districts with the Cupola where meet the occultists of the time. The direction offers each evening to her a soup St-Germain and the many black coffees which she swallows with length of days. Wednesday, it gives conferences to the studio Raspail and every afternoon it goes to the church of Our-Lady Fields to be collected there. In 1935, Maria organizes meetings to present the preliminary rites of the Gold Mass to it: Dedication of the Advent of the Third Term; The data processing of the applicants to the rank of Sweeping of the Court; The data processing of postulating under officiating minor; Dedication of the alternate rates/rhythms of the life and death; The celebration of the Third Birth With the end 1935, she announces to Marc Pluquet that she has just finished her mission and that she prepares her departure now. She prophesies that the advent of the Third Term could be done only in two or three generations when the world is prepared by social and political upheavals. The mission of those which have include its oeuvre be to preserve its teaching so that it can reappear under a form clear and comprehensible with some man and some woman which be not obligatorily form with symbolism. At beginning of year 1936, Maria give -- one Saturday -- a last conference with studio Raspail with end of which she make her good-bye with her companion without leave of successor appoint. She leaves at once to join her Marie daughter in Switzerland. April 17, 1936 Maria de Naglowska, Sophiale de Montparnasse, dies with her daughter with Zurich.
