To: alt.magick.sex,alt.magick.tantra From: papajohn@vnet.net (John E."Papa John" Mayer) Subject: sex magick and tantra similar/identical? Date: 1997/06/26 sex magick and tantra similar/identical? OK, intrepid lurkers of alt.magick.sex who *don't* think this ng is for pornography, here's yer chance to put up or shut up...even if ya only say, "I'm here too!", let's see who's listenin'. A coupla remarks first: keep the header in lower case. Even I don't read headers in all caps. This is from the start *our* newsgroup, not theirs. Of course, they will never know we were here, but we didn't want them to, did we? I'm crossin' to alt.magick.tantra which is the land of ascended sex magickians, et al. Perhaps we'll hear a post from the great beyond!Nobody's a final authority. We aren't purifying the Sacred Teachings, we're discussing a subject, kewl? And thanks to tyagi, who still insists on crossing material here regularly. Is sex magick the same as tantra? Y'see, I've read a lotta stuff on sm, Crowley's various expositions, including De Arte Magica, which is very direct, even for Fra. P.; I've read Culling, who seems to make sm into a very esoteric thing, in three levels with everything laid out (pun intended? dunno...) nice and neatly; I've even read P.B.Randolph, whom I find nearly incoherent, though there seems to be *some* method in his madness...read a little of O.A.Spare's stuff, who appears to be a raving madman (a quality I rather like in a person, since it makes one a real *hoot* at parties)...even read some of Cat's stuff on Tantra on her web site (where *is* my list of URL's?), and on the other hand... I've heard that tantra is not for liberation of one's sex partner as much as oneself (a goal I like to think is the central point of western sm), but to enslave the partner! SURELY THIS CAN'T BE SO!!! Wo, theatrics! So wassup with that? How similar is tantra to western practice? Is Karezza (sp?) exactly like tantra, or is it another approach entirely? I remember hearing about that stuff when I was a teenager (back when the mountains were only knee-high), and already being interested in magick at the time, I was intrigued, but also broke and mostly too bashful to take such a book to the clerk. Times and people do change..... So what kinda mess is this? I got Mister Crowley over here servin' it up down and dirty, Culling with white bread and mayonaisse, Spare maybe with some funny-looking stuff dripping off of it, Siva threatening a slave into submission, and them K~~za folks doin' god knows what.... Or do I? Will Love, Papa John John E."Papa John" Mayer Magick*Musick*Mayhem papajohn@vnet.net chiron1@ix.netcom.com If it don't hurt a little bit, it ain't rock & roll!
