There is no sign of life upon the sand. In the distance see an oasis, green grass, palm trees, abundant life. Between you and the oasis is a stretch of red sand having a path of black sand leading to the oasis. Scattered along the sides of the path and throughout the red band are bleached white human skeletons. There are a number of people standing at the beginning of the path. Step 3: Make an image of people starting down the path toward the oasis: As they start, a dark cloud forms at the other end of the path. As they proceed the cloud moves down the path toward them. As the cloud approaches, lightning begins within it. The people become afraid and start to run in all directions. Some run back down the path to the white sand. Others flee to the sides out through the red sand. Each person running in the red sand is struck by lightening and turned into a skeleton. Step 4: Make an image of yourself standing at the start of the path: If your fear is for another, make an image of that person standing beside you. If the other is a child or loved one, they are holding your hand. Know that if you do not go to the oasis, you will die slowly in the white sand. Know that if you run from the path in fear you will die violently in the red sand. Step 5: Make the following image: You begin to walk down the path. Recite the following: Fear is the mind killer. It is the little death which leads to total annihilation. As the cloud reaches you recite the following: I will face my fear, let it pass through me and over me. See the cloud pass through you and around you and recite: When it is gone I will turn and see the path of my fear, and I will be all the remains. Turn and see the cloud continue down the path and slowly dissipate. Step 6: Make the following image: You complete your walk up the path to the oasis. See its beauty, feel the cool grass, smell all the scents of the life around you. Know that you have transcended your fear and will survive. Step 7: Perform a relaxation/closing ritual of your choice. __________ This ritual was derived from _Dune_, by Frank Herbert.
