Your own theories, perceptions, and judgements will bring you forward far better than any teacher can spoon-feed to you. Once you have a good idea of your working theories, a healthy dose of self-confidence, and the bloody-mindedness to succeed, then maybe a teacher will be of greater value, if only so you can disagree with him/her. Those who want to teach magic (I won't make a broad statement about the entire teaching business), usually have ego problems. It really is the ultimate ego masterbation (for some) to yak to little underlings about how great you are. It isn't a process of teaching, but the levelling of a pedestal and resting on one's laurels. A teacher who does not learn from his students does not teach. A teacher should be one that you admire and petition to learn from and who admires you in return. Ergo, finding a teacher is less like enrolling in a class than falling in love, if I may be so bold to compare such a level of intimacy. -Renfield
