Very interesting. I once read of a related use for witch bottles that may shed some light on their use as protective devices. According to the book (sorry, don't recall the title; library book I read years ago) a witch bottle could be used to uncross yourself if you were being bewitched. You made the bottle (similar recipe, incl. your urine) and then put it on a fire. The pins, glass, etc. would prick the witch who was working you and the fire would leave her in agony until she broke the spell. Maybe the idea of using a witch bottle as protection from bad luck was derived from the above idea. I think there are also Eastern European traditions of using bottles filled with blood (bait) and saint's images (protection after the bait is taken) to trap vampires. --Stacey >blessed beast! >lorax666 >-- >tyagi@houseofkaos.abyss.com (emailed replies may be posted); cc me replies; >http://www.abyss.com/tokus; http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocatSPELLS.html
