I've got two for the record. The first is "Harry's Occult Shop" on the 1200
block of South St. in Philadelphia. Many people might be familiar with
South St as a bohemian mecca for white suburban kids to buy overpriced vinyl
clothing and get their noses pierced. This is about 10 blocks up form that
section. The phone number there is (215) 735-8262. Established in 1917.
They have very nice business cards with instructions for candle burning and
psalm reading for many conditions. (this would be why I know all this info
on them, I kept the card) About a block up is another store called Rich's
Spiritual Supply. I do not have a card from there, but it is the one I
visit when I am in the city. Both establishments are extremely nice, and
carry a variety of candles, hoodoo formulas (mostly brewed on premise),
roots herbs and stones, religious items, talismans, and books. Rich's tends
to be a bit less expensive (or did last time I was in), but they're both
quite reasonable. They are both quite beautiful on the inside, reminding me
of 1950's drug stores. I'd highly recommend anyone in or around Philly stop
in and look around both.
