You don't have to worry. You're mostly harmless, so they won't care too much
about you. A little clucking and tsking, perhaps.

Now, as to fiction. You are clinging desperately to that little ego of yours,
but, no matter how you struggle, you can't make it into more than it really
is. You have chosen a very shaky base for your reality, if it has to depend
on a concept of "I" at its center.

Study some neurology and some psychology, if you're up to it. Ego boundaries
are elastic. They can expand and contract limitlessly. The only difference
between you and the chair you sit on is your active imposition of that
boundary. When you slam your finger in the door, you might say "I hurt
myself". You might also say "I hurt my finger". Elastic ego boundaries,
sometimes your finger is you, sometimes it is not. It is also possible to
completely dissolve ego boundaries by inducing certain states of
consciousness. Mystics and madmen throughout history have been telling you
this, but you are almost certainly too frightened to heed them.

There are a number of advantages to being able to dissolve and reformulate
yourself. For one, you end up with a much clearer and stronger identity when
you put it together yourself, rather than allowing the chance events of your
environment to do it for you. What you are currently calling your identity is
a product of random forces and the various, competing indoctrinations you have
been subjected to since your birth. Take a good look at yourself and you'll
notice what a patchwork creature you are, cross-hatched with contradictions
and conflicts. It's a slave self, made for you by others.

The alchemical formula "Solve et Coagula" refers, at least in some senses, to
the dissolution and reconstruction of an identity by choice. It's part of
what magicians do.
