Dittany of Crete is fairly easy to grow through most of the US and
Europe. It's not hardy most places (i.e. doesn't last through the winter in
the ground), but one can always grow it in a pot and take it in when it
starts to get chilly. I was going to get some for my garden this year--there
is an herb farm near me that sells plants--but I flaked out on driving out
there in time. Try calling around to nurseries and herb farms in your area.
If they don't have it, they will order it for you, though you will have to
give them the proper latin name.
If you do order it, make sure you aren't getting "gas plant," Dictamnus
alba, which is often called Dittany. It's a cool plant (can burst into flame
briefly when a match is held near because it produces large quantities of
volatile oil), but real Dittany of Crete is Origanum dictamnus. Totally
different plant. Apparently, it's very pretty, too, and looks great in
hanging baskets. Many nurseries online have it, and it's cheap. Try Companion
