****However that may be, the "Clavicules of Solomon," both greater and
lesser keys, are both obviously attributed, in the texts themselves,
to Solomon King of Israel (circa 900 B.C.) and just as obviously
medieval (and late medieval at that) in their style and content. They
even contain obvious Christian elements that didn't seem to bother the
anonymous authors over much. Even the Zohar was attributed to a first
century rabbi but is actually a 14th century work in its content and
by the admission of the author's widow. It was customary in that time
to attribute magical works to ancient authorities both for prestige
and to protect the actual authors from possible persecution.****
