Hay's and Wilson's use of a cyphered Dee manuscript was excellent for verisimilitude considering Dee's checkered history (magician, astologer, mathmetician, spy). While the "translation" with some of its diagrams pushes believability a little, Wilson's essays (there is a sequel called _The R'hley Text_ also available from Skoob) bring up some interesting mysteries such as the portalans and secret german occult lodges. And he links these to Lovecraft. Wonderful pieces of literary misdirection.
