To: alt.magick.tyagi,alt.tarot,alt.divination From: nagasivaSubject: Tarot Standards Date: Fri, 18 Apr 2003 08:53:21 GMT re the Witches' Tarot Theme-deck, it has its followers but in general it is considered one of the more extreme divergences from occult tradition as it tames or crafts the symbolism to particular Neopagan standards. > What are the major differences in the decks and there uses? common factors for tarot include 78 cards, 4 suits, 22 trumps, 10 numbers, 4 courts with variable adherence to traditional names/characters for the Trumps and other cards. the art and symbolism varies sometimes quite tremendously from deck to deck otherwise. this is probably covered in some FAQ. the variety of decks don't usually have specific uses provided along WITH the cards, though there are sometimes traditional layouts (e.g. the Celtic Cross, 3-Card Temporal Layout, etc.) in the 'Little White Books' that accompany the cards as sold. people use tarot cards differently more on the basis of what their *own* background is as compared with how the deck may be fashioned. one might use a card as part of an overall reading in something like the Celtic Cross whilst another may use the same card from the same deck as part of some kind of spell to draw love or as a focal point for mystical progress. * divination in conventional layouts * divination in unconventional layouts * magic as applied externally to apparent conditions (e.g. the 2 Cups used to bring love to a relation) * magic as applied internally to mystical adeptship (i.e. meditation upon the cards as hooks or as a ladder to escalate upon the Spiritual Path) nagasiva
